Day 190
I still marvel at the reality of the 'one day at a time' mantra. Its basis in theology, as well as recovery, is clear, yet it always seemed to me to be more of an encouragement or cheer than a requirement for sanity — much less sobriety. And it touches everything: temptation, tasks, love, pain.
When I think of the hurt I've caused, and am causing, it overwhelms me to ponder how long it may continue. I must remain vigilant to the truth, patient with the discomfort, and humble to the hope. It seems I have only been able to muster such strength for short periods.
I shall endeavor to be this person of honesty, caring, and humility every second of every minute, every minute of every hour, every hour of every day. Beyond that, I will rely on the strength from God and the hope that comes from lessons learned. One day at a time.
