May 05 • Delay My Last

Day 300

The idea of delayed gratification as a significant factor in recovery, not to mention in ordinary life, has been a recurring theme of “duh!” for me lately. It’s not rocket science, but it’s also not been an intentional part of my life, and I believe my addict has taken good advantage of my weakness for creating an immediate moment of comfort at any cost. I believe my proclivity for lying and misdirection to gain the moment rather than working through a discomfort in exchange for long-term good, is directly related to my imaging and lack of vision about being able to have patience through the discomfort. Patience against the moment is a new skill I must develop for recovery, not to mention for the rest of my life. Or, at least for today.
